"This is a bridge to communicate with the world."

In summer 2022, it was finally going to happen.

For months, the state of Oregon and the city of Eugene (known colloquially as Track Town, USA) have been preparing for the arrival of World Athletics Championships-- a biyearly event that brings all of the world's best runners together for competition. It might as well be an Olympic level event-- but only for track and field. For 2022, World Athletics selected Eugene as its host city, thanks to the brand new, state-of-the-art Hayward Field at the University of Oregon: a complete remodel of the iconic track stadium that birthed Nike in 1964. For Eugene, this was huge. Not only is it unusual for Championships to be held in a smaller city like Eugene-- historically it's held in cities like Doha, London, or Beijing-- but it was the first time in the event's 50-year history that it was to be hosted in America.

To facilitate the arrival of hundreds of world-class athletes from across the globe, the University of Oregon created a student envoy program, in which students would be trained to help those who don't speak English or are unaware of American customs navigate Eugene during their stay. I was given some interview footage and told to make a short ad out of it, to be posted on social channels and played in Hayward Field itself to the nearly 15,000 people in attendance for Championships.

I was able to use my research and content acquisition skills to source footage from the University, from news agencies, and even got some time of my own within Heyward to film B-Roll, to make the Student Envoys featurette.
