Creators, artists, activists.

Scratch that, we're dreamers.

The University of Oregon's Media + Social Action ARC is a student community dedicated to creating change by sparking conversations in our local community. They hold events, make short films, create podcasts, and more in the pursuit of creating change.

In short, it's like a student ad agency, devoted to social causes.

Despite that outward-facing positioning, the ARC held a confusing brand position, using multiple names and marketing materials that lacked the energy that should come from a group of that nature.

With these problems in mind, I led a full-scale rebrand of the ARC in 2022, complete with a full identity system that helped shape the voice for what Media + Social Action is and adapt to promote and unify every project that came out of the ARC. After a successful initial pitch, I built and led a team to execute on the rebrand, touching everything from a fully revamped social media strategy to a full-featured website, merchandise, guidelines, and more. That includes resources like Canva templates to allow the design system to be accessible to everyone in the ARC- even those without a lot of design experience.

While the rebrand effort is still ongoing, you can find examples of the brand in:

The initial pitch deck and January brand update presentation I made for the larger group.

The effort was a huge step for me, and helped me foster experience in several ways:

  • Pitching an executing a larger-scale project
  • Leading and helping to manage a team
  • Managing and organizing assets to make everything accessible
  • Getting a foothold of experience in Adobe Illustrator
  • Building for newer web technologies and using a CMS at scale
  • Designing for merchandise and executing on sourcing/printing custom products (For more, read my page on the hoodies we designed)

This is just a small selection of the skills this project allowed me to foster. It really was a complete multimedia effort, and a great example in how I was able to use both my creative and technological skillset to create something special.
